SUBSTANCE: invention relates to proton exchange membrane fuel cells that use hydrogen as fuel, as well as direct methanol and ethanol fuel cells The platinum catalyst based on tin (IV) oxide comprises at least 20 wt.% platinum on the carrier, whereas the carrier is a macroporous tin (IV) oxide having a pore volume of at least 0.15 g/cm3, a specific area of at least 20 m2/g, the average size of spherical macropores 100-600 nm, the proportion of macropores in the total pore volume is not less than 30%. The catalyst is prepared by the reduction of hydroplatinic acid crystalline hydrate in ethylene glycol, alkali and carrier, macroporous tin (IV) oxide, which is obtained by template synthesis using polystyrene microspheres with a diameter of 160 to 800 nm.
EFFECT: increased electrochemical activity and stability of platinum catalysts based on tin (IV) oxide.
