FENDER Russian patent published in 2023 - IPC E02B3/26 B63B21/00

Abstract RU 2800916 C2

FIELD: ship equipment.

SUBSTANCE: fender for protecting the ship from the moorage wall contains a unit of hydraulic cylinder 14 and piston 16, located in such a way that the compression of the fender is converted into a force to move the piston 16 in the cylinder 14. The hydraulic cylinder 14 is connected by valves 182, 184 to a reservoir 180 which is at least partially filled with gas. Unloader valve 182 allows hydraulic fluid to flow from cylinder 14 to reservoir 180 when the fender compression force exceeds a threshold, allowing the fender to compress. When the force is reduced, bypass valve 184 allows hydraulic fluid to return to cylinder 14 causing piston 16 to move and expand the fender as the boat moves away from the fender. The fender comprises at least one force adjustment device connected between the fender base 10 and the fender movable surface 12; and means for dynamically varying the force applied by said at least one force adjustment device during periods of oscillation of the vessel's oscillatory movement, increasing and decreasing the reaction force applied by the fender, respectively, during the period of the oscillatory movement of the vessel to increase the net absorption of energy from the oscillatory movement. Thus, the oscillatory movements of the vessel are reduced. Many of these fenders can be combined with mooring line retainers equipped with a mechanism that ejects the line when the vessel's movement away from the mooring wall causes an increase in force on the mooring line.

EFFECT: energy generated by such efforts can be used to reduce ship movements.
