SUBSTANCE: method of operation of a reciprocating compressor with regenerative cooling consists in alternately compressing and forcing a liquid and gaseous medium into the working chamber of cylinder 1. Cylinder 1 is alternately connected to sources of liquid and gaseous media. Sleeve 11 of cylinder 1 is made of a porous material. The bottom of piston 2, facing the compression and injection chambers, is covered with a porous material. In the course of compression and injection of liquid, part of it is placed in the porous materials of sleeve 11 and the bottom of piston 2.

EFFECT: improved cooling of parts of the cylinder-piston group and efficiency.
