SUBSTANCE: invention is related to a method for long-range detection and recognition of low profile air targets. To detect and recognize targets, an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) with an onboard radar station (ORS) is released from the aircraft at a certain distance, all aircraft that pose a threat are detected, they are recognized by type according to the criterion "target - in a cloud of chaff" based on irradiating an extended target with a signal of circular polarization and separating an elliptically polarized signal in the reflected signal with an inclination of the main axis of the polarization ellipse corresponding to the position of the target in space, the aircraft threat is unmasked by provoking them to consume ammunition, performing a manoeuvre to avoid enemy combat missiles and returning to board your aircraft in a certain way.
EFFECT: increased situational awareness of the crew of a manned combat aircraft, due to the recognition of low-profile air targets in the immediate vicinity.
