SUBSTANCE: invention is related to a method for detecting objects and determining their location using a distributed fibre optic interferometric vibration sensor, the sensitive element of which is an extended fibre optic cable laid along the trajectory of objects. The result is achieved by the fact that after registration and extraction of vibration signals, the spatial distribution of the energy of the recorded vibration signals is calculated, then the detection of objects is carried out according to the characteristic shape of the exponential tails of the distributions of the spatial clusters of vibration energy corresponding to them, and determination of the longitudinal spatial coordinate of the objects relative to the fibre optic route is carried out on the basis of the calculation of the values parameters of the spatial distribution of vibration energy clusters corresponding to these objects.

EFFECT: automatic detection and determination of the exact location of objects moving along the fibre optic route in real time and with a time delay of no more than 1 s.
