FIELD: laser technology.
SUBSTANCE: invention is related to ring gas-discharge lasers. The group of inventions presents a method and device for ignition and maintenance of a discharge in a ring gas laser with a single cathode and separate anodes, an ignition electrode and a grounded stem for filling the resonator with an active medium. A positive pulse discharge ignition voltage is applied to the ignition electrode, establishing a positive voltage to the anodes and a negative voltage to the cathode to maintain the discharge current necessary to pump the laser, while the anodes are supplied with a voltage of positive polarity relative to ground, and a voltage of negative polarity relative to ground is applied to the cathode , which is less than the potential for ignition of the discharge on the stem, and by regulating the voltage at the cathode, the leakage of the discharge current through the stem to ground is eliminated.
EFFECT: prevention of breakdown between the cathode and the stem and leakage of the discharge current through the stem.
