FIELD: laser equipment.
SUBSTANCE: ring gas lasers. A method for igniting a discharge in a ring gas laser with two gas-discharge gaps, a common cathode and separate anodes, and an ignition electrode in each gas-discharge gap includes applying a pulsed positive discharge ignition voltage to the ignition electrodes, establishing a positive voltage at the anodes and a negative voltage at the cathode to maintain a constant discharge current. Before simultaneous ignition of the discharge in both gas-discharge gaps, the discharge in each gas-discharge gap is alternately ignited and extinguished by applying a positive pulse voltage to each of the ignition electrodes separately and then removing the negative cathode voltage.
EFFECT: increasing the reliability of discharge ignition in a ring gas laser with two gas-discharge gaps and eliminating the possibility of a discharge occurring in the bypass channel of the ring gas laser.
