FIELD: monitoring the water content in oil.
SUBSTANCE: device includes a first density meter connected to a fluid conduit. The first density meter is configured to generate fluid density data for a fluid flowing through a fluid conduit, the fluid containing oil. The device includes a water cut analyser connected to a fluid conduit. The water cut analyser is configured to generate water cut data for the fluid. The water cut data is not calibrated for one or more properties of the oil. The exemplary device includes a processor associated with the first density meter and water cut analyser. The processor is configured to determine the water-in-oil concentration of the fluid based on the fluid density data, the water cut data, and the water density data. Moreover, the processor is configured to compare the concentration of water in the oil with the water cut threshold value and generate a warning if the water concentration in the oil exceeds the water cut threshold value, and the water cut threshold value is based on the water content for fluid combustion.
EFFECT: enabling measurement of water concentration in oil without using manual fluid sampling to determine oil properties and without the need to recalculate or evaluate oil properties under pipeline conditions based on analysis of fluid samples under environmental conditions.
