FIELD: mining.

SUBSTANCE: used in the development of mineral deposits, represented by sheet flooded sand-gravel and phosphorite ore bodies. Method for open mining of mineral deposits includes opening the deposit by open mining operations, flooding the resulting pit, placing floating mining equipment on the water surface, breaking and transporting the mineral. The breaking is carried out in several stages by face cuts of equal width after reducing the strength of the layer of the mass rock to be addressed under the action of the flooding liquid and it starts with the development of face cuts with a depth equal to the depth of the layer of reduced strength and a width equal to twice the depth of this layer at a distance from each other equal to the width of the face cut. After reducing the strength of the underlying layer with a power equal to the thickness of the overlying one, the first-stage face cuts are addressed, lying between the face cuts with a depth equal to twice the depth of this layer. After reducing the strength of the next underlying layer, the face cuts of the second stage are addressed with a depth equal to twice the depth of the layer. The face cuts are alternated, while as the mining progresses, the thickness of the water layer above the protruding parts of the rock mass being mined is maintained to ensure the operation of the floating mining equipment.

EFFECT: increasing productivity and reducing the cost of mining deposits represented by softened rocks.
