FIELD: non-ferrous metallurgy.

SUBSTANCE: method includes: stages of crushing and extraction of materials from the upper part of the cathode device containing cathode blocks, rammed carbon mass, side blocks, as well as crushing and extraction of underlying monolithic aluminosilicate layers of refractory lining impregnated with fluorine salts and products of interaction of material based on non-graphitized carbon with sodium, fluoride salts and/or aluminium, while the extracted material from the bottom of the hearth is divided into two parts in a separation device with a movable mesh inclined to the horizon: the first is bulk material based on non-graphitized carbon, which has retained its original properties, and the second is waste with dimensions particles more than 5 mm, after which the loose material based on non-graphitized carbon is cooled and packaged with a vacuum loader in sealed big bags for subsequent storage for recycling and/or direct recycling.

EFFECT: reduction in the amount of waste generated during aluminium production sent for long-term storage.
