SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method for lining the cathode device of an electrolyzer for producing aluminum. The method includes filling and leveling the thermal insulation layer on the bottom of the cathode device casing, filling a refractory layer on top of it, installing cathode hearth and side blocks, followed by sealing the seams between them with a cold-pressed hearth mass and subsequent monolitizing firing, in which a lower barrier layer of graphite foil is installed on the leveled thermal insulation layer, placed between layers of sheets of fiberboard with a density of 950 kg/m³ or higher, at least one fire-resistant layer is formed, an upper barrier layer of graphite foil is installed, placed between layers of sheets of fiberboard with a density of 950 kg/m3 or higher, all formed layers are simultaneously pressed until the upper surface of the upper layer coincides with the plane of the lower cut of the windows made in the casing of the cathode device for placing cathode rods, and a refractory layer with a thickness of 20-30 mm above the upper layer is formed.

EFFECT: barrier properties of the lining of the cathode device of the electrolyzer are improved and the possibility of recycling spent lining materials is provided, environmental pollution is reduced, financial costs for the purchase of new lining materials are reduced due to their reuse and the cost of aluminum is reduced.
