FIELD: physics.
SUBSTANCE: invention is related to design of cathode device of electrolytic cell for aluminum production by electrolysis. Cathode device comprises a metal casing lined with lateral blocks installed on the curb, bottom-hole coal-graphite blocks with current-carrying rods, base from heat-insulating layer and refractory layer made of mixture of porcellanite 23–26 wt %, quartzite – 43–46 wt% anodes and spent mullite bricks of anode burning furnaces 28–32 wt % and compacted to apparent density of not less than 2,100 kg/m3.
EFFECT: longer service life of the electrolysis cell, reduced consumption of fluoride salts and wider raw material base due to recycling wastes from aluminum plants and use of natural materials and slower penetration of aggressive components of electrolysis into the refractory layer.
