SUBSTANCE: invention can be used in the manufacture of decorative products and souvenirs using laser engraving of halftone images, as well as in marking products. A test image is engraved on a sample of the workpiece material and, based on the results of its evaluation, the settings of the laser equipment are selected. Before computer calibration of the original image, additional clarification of the laser equipment settings is carried out. On a workpiece intended for applying an original image, at selected settings, an additional test element is engraved in form of a test strip with a tone saturation that increases along its length from the initial tone saturation of the engraved material to the maximum possible for it. Calibration of the original image and refinement of the laser equipment settings are carried out based on the results of evaluating the engraving of an additional test element by measuring the optical density of the image.
EFFECT: invention improves the quality and stability of images engraved on materials with unstable properties.
