FIELD: catalysts.
SUBSTANCE: method for producing a catalyst in the form of a ball of refractory clay with a core of sodium nitrite for gas carburization of steel products. The dough-like refractory clay mass is formed into a ball with a core of sodium nitrite. The said ball with a core of sodium nitrite is formed by performing the following operations. Hemispheres are formed from a dough-like refractory clay mass with an internal hemispherical cavity to accommodate sodium nitrite. The resulting hemispheres of refractory clay are dried. Powdered sodium nitrite is heated to its melting temperature and maintained at the melting temperature until homogeneous liquid sodium nitrite is obtained. Liquid sodium nitrite is poured into the internal hemispherical cavities of the refractory clay hemispheres until they are completely filled. The refractory clay hemispheres filled with sodium nitrite are cooled and then the resulting clay hemispheres are connected. The mentioned sodium nitrite core is obtained monolithic.
EFFECT: increase in the period of catalyst activity is provided to create layers more than 0.8 mm thick in the process of gas carburization of steel products in the thermal furnace temperature range from 500 to 930°C.
