FIELD: meteorology.
SUBSTANCE: used to measure the visibility range from an aircraft. A visual range recorder containing a radiation unit installed on the runway, a receiving unit and a visual range determination unit connected to it, installed on the aircraft. A second calibrated radiation source is additionally introduced into the radiation unit, installed at a given distance from the first one on one line perpendicular to the axis of the runway; the visual range determination unit additionally measures the distance between the images of the calibrated radiation sources; information about the distance between the calibrated radiation sources, the focal length of the lens of the receiving unit and the radiation intensity of the calibrated sources, and the visual range determination unit determines the flight visual range according to a program based on the formula
where FVR is flight visibility range, L is the distance between calibrated radiation sources; F is the focal length of the receiving unit lens, l is the distance between the images of calibrated radiation sources; F0 is the intensity of radiation from calibrated sources, Fr is the intensity of the receiver signal when calibrated radiation sources are turned on, Fn is the intensity of atmospheric noise when calibrated radiation sources are turned off.
EFFECT: increasing the accuracy of measurements.
