METHOD FOR TESTING SHIP MODELS IN EXPERIMENTAL ICE POOL Russian patent published in 2024 - IPC B63B71/20

Abstract RU 2811173 C1

FIELD: shipbuilding.

SUBSTANCE: methods for testing models of ice-navigating vessels in a pool with artificial ice. Positively buoyant particles made of high-pressure polyethylene in the form of truncated cones are placed into the water and the surface layer of water is cooled until an ice field is formed, after which the value of the ice resistance of the vessel is determined by moving its model along the ice field. In order to ensure unconditional floating of the cone axis vertically upward, a blind hole is made in polyethylene particles along the axis of the cone from the lower base upwards, which is tightly closed in the lower part with a cylindrical plug made of heavy metal. The diameter of the hole, its height from the base, and the mass of the plug are selected such that two conditions are met. The first is that the mass of a conical polyethylene particle with a hole and a heavy plug is equal to the mass of the same particle without a hole and a plug, i.e. the average density of the volume of a truncated cone with a hole and a plug is equal to the density of the polyethylene from which the truncated cone is made. This condition ensures that the proposed cone design is physically identical to a cone without a hole and a plug. The second condition is that the center of gravity of the truncated cone modified in the described manner is located below the center of application of buoyancy forces when the cone is vertically positioned with the large base upward.

EFFECT: reduction in the labor intensity of preparing model ice is achieved.
