FIELD: ships and other floating crafts.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to ship building, in particular to methods for testing models of ice-going vessels in a basin with artificial ice. To test ship models in the ice basin with adjustment of the given thickness of the model ice cover, granules in the form of polyethylene particles with positive buoyancy are added to the water, having the shape of a body of revolution and capable of occupying a vertical position due to the inner blind hole, which in lower part is tightly closed by heavy metal cylindrical plug. Height of heavy plug is chosen so that weight of granule with hole and heavy plug is equal to weight of the same particle without hole and plug, and diameter of heavy plug ensures stable floating of granule in vertical position. Obtained suspension is cooled to form ice field to define ship ice resistance on moving ship model on ice field. Granules are in the form of a sphere, a truncated cone and a circular cylinder, and the cylindrical plug used is a permanent magnet inserted into the opening of the granule, wherein the magnets are placed with their like poles outside.
EFFECT: achieving similarity and correct evaluation of main components of ice resistance forces and simplifying calculation of results of model tests on a full-scale ship.
