SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method of producing 3,4,5,6-tetrachlorophthalic acid, used as a monomer for the synthesis of polycondensation polymers with high fire, heat and heat resistance. The method is characterized by the fact that the treatment of 3,4,5,6-tetrachlorophthalic anhydride (TCPA) is carried out with a composition representing a mixture of distilled water and 1,4-dioxane (DO) at the following component ratios, wt.%: TCPA — 55.0; water — (40.0–30.0); DO — (5-15).

EFFECT: provision of a simple method of obtaining the target 3,4,5,6-tetrachlorophthalic acid of monomeric purity.
