FIELD: rare and rare earth metals (REM).
SUBSTANCE: invention can be used in the processing of high-iron phosphate REM raw materials. A method of processing high-iron rare earth ores includes reduction roasting using a solid reducing agent in the form of coke, in which niobium and manganese are concentrated in rare earth slag, and iron and phosphorus are reduced to a metal product. Reduction roasting is carried out at a temperature of 1,300–1,400°C with the addition of coke 11–17% by weight of the ore, while after reaching the maximum temperature the process is continued with isothermal exposure for 10 minutes.
EFFECT: method ensures the extraction of niobium and manganese into slag up to 95.5 and 97.2%, respectively, and the degree of recovery of iron and phosphorus into cast iron up to 98 and 99%, respectively.
