SUBSTANCE: device for supplying medical instruments with operating means has a socket insert located in the receiving pocket of the device and connected to the interface of the operating means of the device. Additionally, the data transfer interface is located in the receiving pocket, which is covered by a socket insert and is thus inaccessible from the outside. To gain access to the device software and/or device data, the socket insert can be removed and replaced with a service insert, which, on the one hand, covers the outlet of the operating equipment, but at the same time is in contact with the data connector. In this state, the service insert has the ability to communicate directly or through an external device of the service insert with the control device to enter or read data and/or programs, as well as to update programs and change data to change device parameters or the like.
