SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a feed additive for optimizing ruminal digestion of highly productive cows in the first period of lactation, which is a zeolite-based composition including magnesium oxide and sodium carbonate salt, while activated zeolite of the following mineral composition is used as the zeolite: 20–30% of clinoptilolite, 20–30% of montmorillonite, 28.0–36.7% of opal-cristobalite, 10.6–21% of calcite, 4.6–11.3% of quartz, sodium bicarbonate as sodium carbonate, and the composition of the additive is characterized by the following ratio of components, wt.%: 66 of activated zeolite, 17 of sodium bicarbonate, 17 of magnesium oxide. The invention also relates to a method of increasing the milk productivity of cows, which includes feeding highly productive cows in the first period of lactation with the specified feed additive, and the additive is fed in a daily dose of 300 g per head.

EFFECT: invention makes it possible to optimize the rumen environment for microflora, and optimization of the rumen environment increases the milk productivity of cows, leads to an increase in average daily milk yield by 6.3% and the yield of milk fat and protein by 4.1%.
