SUBSTANCE: present invention relates to a method for producing 2-hydroxy-2-((5-methylfuran-2-yl)methyl)-3,3,3-trifluoropropanoic acid of the formula 
. Furyl-comprising carboxylic acids and their derivatives are of interest as ligands for the production of metal complexes with catalytic activity, significant spectral and luminescent characteristics, analytical reagents for the determination of metals, extractants, and intermediates for the synthesis of biologically active compounds. The proposed method involves the interaction of 2,5-dimethylfuran with ethyl trifluoropyruvate for 2 hours. Next, the resulting product undergoes hydrolysis in a water-ethanol medium under the action of sodium hydroxide at boiling for 30 minutes, followed by acidification with a solution of hydrochloric acid.
EFFECT: expansion of the range of methods for producing furyl-comprising carboxylic acids.
