FIELD: jewellery.
SUBSTANCE: present invention relates to a method and a device for making an article, in particular a diamond or other faceted precious stone, from a workpiece, in particular, a rough diamond or other superhard material. Method is implemented by device providing laser beam located inside fluid medium jet under pressure. Proposed method comprises cutting workpiece by laser beam in compliance with predetermined cutting sequence for removal of workpiece material with each completed cutting operation. Method further includes performing operations of turning the workpiece around one and the same axis of rotation according to a predetermined sequence of turning. One operation of turning through an angle determined from a predetermined turning sequence is performed after each completed cutting operation, wherein laser beam is displaced once along two-dimensional path defined by preset cutting sequence.
EFFECT: efficient cutting of superhard workpiece materials with high accuracy.
