FIELD: various technological processes.

SUBSTANCE: invention can be used in making cathode blocks for mounting a cathode device of an aluminium electrolyser. Method of producing composite materials based on carbon involves mixing carbon components with metal-containing components in form of powder, moulding and thermal treatment. A dry mixture of the composite material is prepared by mixing thermoanthracite and graphite with titanium powder in amount of 3 to 15 wt.%, powder of titanium oxide TiO2 in amount of 8 to 18 wt.% and boron oxide in amount of up to 22 wt.%. Then binder — coal-tar pitch — is added. Thermal treatment of the moulded mixture is carried out in annealing furnaces at temperature from 1,000 to 1,100 °C.

EFFECT: invention increases resistance of composite material to erosion wear and oxidation in aggressive medium.
