FIELD: metallurgy.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to non-ferrous metallurgy and can be used for processing weakly alkaline aluminate solutions of alumina production. Method involves electrodialysis of aluminate solutions simultaneously in two anode chambers of a three-chamber electrodialysis cell with cation-exchange membranes at an interpolar distance of 3 cm to 5 cm for 45 min to 60 min. Current density is maintained from 1.0 A/dm2 to 3.0 A/dm2, solution temperature from 30 °C to 85 °C. Solution is continuously circulated in the cathode chamber and the level and temperature of the solution in the electrodialysis cell is maintained by introducing an additional volume of the weakly alkaline aluminate solution into the anode chambers.
EFFECT: higher concentration of caustic and total alkali in catholyte and reduced volume of weakly alkaline water in alumina production.
