FIELD: medicine.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to medicine, namely to experimental and preclinical studies, and can be used to simulate radiation pulmonitis in rats, simulation of isolated radiation reactions and late complications in experimental animals and study of mechanisms of its development and treatment on this model. Animal is anesthetized, the pleural cavities, heart and spinal cord are visualized, followed by irradiation of the pleural cavity with lungs, but with minimization of radiation damage to the heart and spinal cord. Animal is fixed in a stereotactic frame or on a tabletop, and the irradiation is carried out with the help of ionizing radiation on a Lexell Gamma-Knife with a single fraction with a total focal dose of 20–25 Gy.
EFFECT: method provides creating an effective and safe method for simulating radiation pulmonitis, which provides maximum approximation to the clinical course of the disease, by administering a dose of radiation therapy locally with a minimum amount of injured surrounding tissues.
