FIELD: metallurgy.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to metallurgy, particularly to induction heat treatment of roll barrels for hardening. Method involves induction hardening of the roll barrel by currents using the main inductor and sprayer while maintaining the distance between them equal to 4 mm and tempering at 100–250 °C for 2–180 hours, additional heating of roll to 100–800 °C before induction heating for hardening, rotation of the roll at speed of 10–260 rpm and movement of the inductor and sprayer along the roll barrel at rate of 0.2–30.0 mm/s, wherein roller rotation, additional heating and induction heating for hardening are performed at vertical position of roller with application of additional annular inductor with traveling electromagnetic field.
EFFECT: increasing energy efficiency of rolling mill barrels heating process for hardening with provision of required quality of hardened layer.
