FIELD: metallurgy and mechanical engineering; applicable in final heat treatment of rolls of sheet mills. SUBSTANCE: roll is subjected to induction heating for hardening, cooling and tempering. Induction heating for hardening and cooling are carried out with roll held in horizontal position. Induction heating for hardening is effected with current frequency of 100-980 Hz. During cooling, distance between induction coil and sprayer is maintained equal at least 4 mm. EFFECT: reduced labor input and expenditures in roll hardening with preserved required quality of hardened layer. 5 cl, 1 ex
