FIELD: data encoding and decoding.
SUBSTANCE: technical result is achieved by the fact that the number of contexts associated with the received data, are reduced based on occupancy data corresponding to one or more parent nodes and one or more child nodes in the obtained data. Data corresponding to the point cloud is decoded based on the reduced number of contexts. At that, for parent nodes having a common face with child nodes, the parent level context index is calculated by taking into account all possible combinations, and for parent nodes having a common edge with child nodes, the parent level context index is calculated by simply counting how many parent nodes are occupied.
EFFECT: high efficiency of encoding and decoding point cloud data by reducing the number of contexts associated with point cloud data.
