FIELD: chemistry.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to chemistry, specifically to a method and apparatus for producing ε-caprolactam and ammonium sulphate. Method of production ε-caprolactam and crystalline ammonium sulphate on an industrial-scale plant, which includes a Beckmann rearrangement reaction section, ammonium sulphate crystallisation section and one or more heat exchangers designed to transfer heat from the Beckmann rearrangement reaction section to the ammonium sulphate crystallisation section, includes several successive stages. First, components in form of cyclohexanone oxime and oleum and/or sulfuric acid are fed into the Beckmann rearrangement reaction section. Components are reacted in the Beckmann rearrangement reaction section to obtain a reaction mixture containing ε-caprolactam, as a result of which heat of reaction is generated. Reaction mixture containing ε-caprolactam, from the Beckmann rearrangement reaction section. Heat of reaction generated in the Beckmann rearrangement reaction section is partially or completely removed by means of one or more heat exchangers intended for heat transfer from the Beckmann rearrangement reaction section. Aqueous ammonium sulphate solution is fed into its crystallisation section. Heat is supplied to the ammonium sulphate crystallisation section containing an aqueous solution of ammonium sulphate using one or more heat exchangers designed for heat transfer to the ammonium sulphate crystallisation section, and formation of ammonium sulphate crystals occurs by evaporative crystallisation in ammonium sulphate crystallisation section. Method is characterized by that the heat of reaction removed from the Beckmann rearrangement reaction section is at least partially or completely transferred to the ammonium sulphate crystallisation section.

EFFECT: provision of production method ε-caprolactam and extraction of crystalline ammonium sulphate in an energy-efficient manner and with a reduced carbon footprint.
