SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method of producing a compound of formula (II), which is an intermediate in synthesis of herbicides. Disclosed method involves reaction of ester of 3-amino-4,4,4-trifluorocrotonic acid of formula (IV) with an aryl carbamate of formula (III) in the presence of a water transfer agent and a catalyst. During the reaction there is continuous evaporation of water and alcohol by-product in the system. Further, treatment is carried out to obtain a compound of formula (II). In said formulas, R₁ and R₂ may be identical or different and are respectively selected from hydrogen, fluorine or chlorine; R₃ is selected from hydrogen or C₁-C₄ alkyl; R₄ is selected from hydrogen, CO₂R₇ or CH₂OR₈; R₅ is selected from hydrogen, CO₂R₇ or CH₂OR₈; R₆ is selected from hydrogen, C₁-C₄ alkyl or C₁-C₄ haloalkyl; R₇ is selected from C₁-C₄ alkyl, C₁-C₄ haloalkyl, allyl or propargyl; R₈ is selected from hydrogen, C₁-C₄ alkyl, C₁-C₄ haloalkyl or C₁-C₄ alkylcarbonyl; R₉ is selected from C₁-C₄ alkyl; R₁₀ is selected from C₁-C₄ alkyl. Invention also relates to a method of producing a compound of formula I from a compound of formula II.

EFFECT: disclosed method enables to obtain a compound of formula (II) with high output and high content.
