FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to chemical industry and can be used in making volumetric colour displays, optical sensors, fibre-optic amplifiers, light-emitting devices, non-contact optical thermometers, IR lasers with upconversion, as well as in fluorescent imaging technologies and monitoring changes in biochemical parameters in living systems. First, a mixture is prepared containing yttrium nitrate hexahydrate Y(NO3)3⋅6H2O, erbium nitrate pentahydrate Er(NO3)3⋅5H2O and ytterbium nitrate pentahydrate Yb(NO3)3⋅5H2O taken in a stoichiometric ratio. Concentrated formic acid HCOOH is added to the obtained mixture and maintained at room temperature until a white powder is formed. Then heat treatment is carried out by heating the obtained powder to 1,000–1,010 °C at rate of 5–10 °C/min with holding at said temperature for 1.0–1.5 hours. Nanocrystalline composite yttrium oxide obtained using said method has the composition (Y0.9Er0.1-xYbx)2O3, where 0.02 ≤ x ≤ 0.08, provides a wide spectral range of upconversion illumination, in which the red component dominates.
EFFECT: method of producing luminophore is simple, easy to manufacture and enables to scale up to mass production.
