SUBSTANCE: invention relates to an aerosol-forming system. Aerosol-forming system comprises a capsule comprising a shell having a base and at least one side wall extending from the base, wherein the capsule also comprises a fragile lid tightly attached to said at least one side wall to form a sealed capsule, and the shell encloses the aerosol-forming substrate, wherein the base and said at least one side wall are made of a current-collecting material for heating the aerosol-forming substrate inside the shell. Additionally, the system comprises a power supply connected to a load circuit comprising an inductor for inductive coupling with the current-collecting material of the shell, and an aerosol-forming device comprising an inductor and a device body having a cavity for receiving a capsule, wherein the aerosol-forming device comprises a piercing element for piercing the capsule cover. Owing to the implementation of the current-collecting material in the form of a capsule shell material, it is possible to perform direct heating of the aerosol-forming substrate. Due to heat generation in capsule wall, there is no need to provide thermal contact with heater and heat transfer from heater to capsule.
EFFECT: reduced need for power and improved heating control enables faster heating of the aerosol-forming substrate and, consequently, reduced start-up time and energy required to prepare the device for use.
