FIELD: chemistry.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to means of protecting humans and animals from arthropods. Repellent composition for repelling arthropods contains: (i) icaridin (1-(1-methylpropoxycarbonyl)-2-(2-hydroxyethyl)piperidine) in amount of 2.5 wt.% to 40 wt.% based on the total weight of the composition, (ii) optionally at least one additional compound having repellent activity on arthropods, selected from PMD (para-menthane-3,8-diol), DETA (N,N-diethyl-m-methylbenzamide), IR3535 (ethyl-3-acetyl butylaminopropanoate) or ethyl anthranilate (ethyl-2-aminobenzoate), and (iii) at least a methyl glucose ether PPG-20 in amount of 0.1 wt.% to 1.5 wt.% based on the total weight of the composition, and, optionally, at least one additional polyol selected from methylglucose ether PPG-10, propylene glycol, butylene glycol and pentylene glycol. Repellent composition is used to repel insects and/or ticks from contact with a person or an animal and/or from a bite.

EFFECT: disclosed repellent composition is safe for humans and animals, highly effective, non-coloring, non-greasy, long-acting, has balanced solubility.
