SUBSTANCE: invention relates to oil industry and can be used to maintain reservoir pressure and increase oil recovery. Method of water intake well operation includes determination of critical gas content βcr of cavitation-free operation of submersible centrifugal pump on water-gas mixture by average integral characteristics, obtained in bench studies when simulating borehole thermobaric conditions, properties of gas and water, including its mineralization. Further, the curve of distribution of gas content of free gas along the depth of the water intake well is calculated. This curve is used to select the submersible centrifugal pump lowering depth Hlow in the range of gas content at the inlet to the submersible centrifugal pump βin, ranging from 0.8 to 0.99 of critical gas content βcr. After that, a submersible centrifugal pump with a cable, a casing, a shank and a packer separating the annular space and the well space above the formation is lowered into the water intake well to the selected depth Hlow. Then the product of the formation is pumped out via the tubing string to the surface and directed via the pipeline to the injection wells.

EFFECT: increasing the operating efficiency of a water intake well and the reliability of installing a submersible centrifugal pump.
