SUBSTANCE: present invention relates to adjusting element (1, 40) for a clock mechanism, comprising an inertial mass, for example balance (23), balance spring (25) and stroke adjustment unit (20, 60) for adjusting the stroke of balance spring (25), wherein balance spring (25) comprises coiled band (2) and means for adjusting the stiffness of the balance spring, which comprise resilient element (5) arranged in series with coiled band (2), wherein stroke adjustment unit (20) is configured to adjust the stroke of the control element with a resolution which is less than or equal to 1 second a day, preferably less than or equal to 0.5 second a day and may be less than or equal to 0.1 second a day.
