SUBSTANCE: invention relates to methods of increasing sugar content in plants using superabsorbent polymers. Disclosed is a method for increasing sugar content in a plant, comprising treating the plant or its propagation material with a superabsorbent polymer, wherein the superabsorbent polymer is applied to the area on which the culture is growing or which is intended for its cultivation, between 0 and 30 days of sowing, wherein the superabsorbent polymer is a potassium salt of starch-g-poly(copolymer of 2-propenamide-2-propenoic acid) or a potassium salt of cross-linked polyacrylic acid, wherein the plant is a sugarcane plant.
EFFECT: providing a method for increasing the extractable amount of sugar contained in a plant using a superabsorbent polymer.
