SUBSTANCE: invention relates to protection of valuable documents from counterfeit and relates to a micro-optical security element with zonal colour transitions. Security element comprises a planar array of focusing elements and a layer of image thumbnails with multiple supporting structures defining isolated volumes within the layer of image thumbnails. Security element also has a first area of image thumbnails comprising a first plurality of image thumbnails belonging to a first subgroup of multiple supporting structures. Isolated volumes of the first subgroup of the supporting structures contain a hardened pigmented material of the first colour. Security element also has a second image thumbnail zone, wherein the second image thumbnail zone comprises a second plurality of image thumbnails belonging to a second subgroup of the multiple supporting structures. Isolated volumes of the second subgroup of the multiple support structures contain a hardened pigmented material of a second colour, which contrasts with the first colour.
EFFECT: high image contrast.
