FIELD: measuring.

SUBSTANCE: use for ultrasonic non-destructive testing of steel slabs during their continuous casting at steel works. Essence of the invention consists in the fact that the ultrasonic instrument of non-destructive testing includes: a rotating shaft; an incoming laser light source generating an incoming laser beam; monolithic rotating optical unit, equipped with several mirrors, which are rigidly connected to it and rotate in perpendicular circles around the same rotating shaft; drive motor; and a set of directional electromagnetic acoustic transducers.

EFFECT: enabling detection and qualification of surface and subsurface discontinuities of metal workpieces having any orientation.
