FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to conditioning of flue gases before feeding them into an electrostatic precipitator and can be used to increase efficiency of catching fly ash particles. Method for chemical conditioning of flue gases involves catalytic oxidation of sulphur dioxide contained in flue gases into sulphur trioxide in a catalytic cartridge. Catalytic cartridge is located in the gas duct in the temperature range of 350-500 °C and shuts off part of the gas duct so that from 5 to 50% of the gas flow passes through the catalytic cartridge. Catalyst layers in the cartridge are parallel to the direction of gas flow. Catalytic cartridge is additionally equipped with a device which controls the amount of gas passing through the catalyst layer by changing the hydraulic resistance of the cartridge.
EFFECT: enabling creation of controlled conversion of sulphur dioxide contained in flue gases into sulphur trioxide, as well as reduction of hydraulic resistance of the catalytic layer, in which this conversion takes place, with minimum capital costs.
