METHOD FOR CORRECTING AXIS OF FIRST METATARSAL BONE IN HALLUX VALGUS Russian patent published in 2024 - IPC A61B17/56

Abstract RU 2825939 C1

FIELD: medicine.

SUBSTANCE: invention refers to medicine, namely to traumatology-orthopaedics, and can be used for treating hallux valgus. Method involves performing a chevron V-shaped osteotomy of the first metatarsal bone, displacing its head in the lateral direction at a distance required for correction and screw osteosynthesis. Protruding medial cortical edge of the metatarsal bone is resected and used as a bone autograft, which is placed on the lateral side of the metatarsal shaft. For this purpose, a graft bed is prepared along the outer edge of the first metatarsal bone by removing the periosteum. Triangular bone autograft is placed in the prepared bed so that the wound sides of the bone autograft adjoin the decortication zone of the diaphysis and the wound surface of the bone head. Autograft is fixed to the diaphysis with a screw, which is delivered either from the inside to the outside, or from the outside to the inside. Excess portion of the metatarsophalangeal joint capsule is resected and closed, and the skin is sutured. Bandage is applied to hold the first finger in the varus hypercorrection position. Activation of patients is carried out on the second day in Baruk shoes.

EFFECT: method provides prevention of instability of fragments of metatarsal bone in the osteotomy area, creates preconditions for their strong consolidation and prevents fractures of this area during subsequent loads due to the fact that the protruding medial cortical edge of the metatarsal bone is resected and used as a bone autograft, which is placed on the lateral side of the diaphysis of the metatarsal bone to create a support block, which bypasses the load and increases the area of the future consolidation zone, and is fixed with a screw.
