SUBSTANCE: group of inventions relates to the field of cosmetic industry, namely to an antimicrobial composition for cleaning and/or caring for a part of human or animal body, intended for local application, its use for providing antimicrobial action when used locally on human or animal body surface, as well as to a non-therapeutic method of providing local antimicrobial action on a human or animal body surface. Disclosed is an antimicrobial composition for cleaning and / or caring for a part of human or animal body, intended for local application, where the antimicrobial action is directed against at least some species of Malassezia, containing: (i) an antimicrobial active substance, which is at least one of caprylhydroxamic acid and/or pyroctone olamine; and (ii) an atractylene compound; where the weight ratio of the amount of said atractylene compound to the amount of said antimicrobial active substance ranges from 5:1 to 1,280:1; where said atractylene compound is atractyleneolide I or II. Use of said composition to provide antimicrobial action when used locally on the surface of a human or animal body. Non-therapeutic method of providing local antimicrobial action on the surface of a human or animal body, comprising a step of applying a safe and effective amount of said composition.
