FIELD: chemical industry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method (versions) of producing triacetin, which is widely used as a stabilizer, plasticiser and moisture-retaining agent. Method of producing triacetin from glycerol and acetic acid is characterized by that reaction is carried out in a cube of a distillation packed column using an acid catalyst taken in amount of 0.05–4 wt.% of the amount of glycerol, with continuous or portioned supply of excess acetic acid, taken in molar ratio to glycerine of 5.01:1–15:1. Temperature in the reactor is gradually increased from 120–140 °C to 150–170 °C, excess acetic acid is distilled off, and the residue is distilled in a vacuum. According to the second version, the reaction is carried out in the presence of butyl acetate.
EFFECT: high conversion of glycerol esterification and high content of the basic substance in the final end product.
