SUBSTANCE: invention discloses an aerosol-generating device, an aerosol-generating system and a method of operating the aerosol-generating device or system. Aerosol generating device comprises a motion detection circuit comprising at least one motion sensor and a motion sensor controller, configured to process the motion sensor data of the at least one motion sensor into gesture data indicative of a gesture performed with respect to the aerosol generating device, by movement of the aerosol generating device. Aerosol generating device further comprises a device control circuit comprising one or more processors of the device and configured to determine, based on analysis and/or processing of gesture data provided by a motion sensor controller of a motion detection circuit, a gesture performed with respect to the aerosol generating device, and controlling the aerosol generating device to perform at least one function of the device in response to the determined gesture.

EFFECT: providing amplification or improvement of operational control.
