FIELD: medicine.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to medicine, particularly to ophthalmology, and can be used to determine drusen subtypes on OCT images in age-related macular degeneration (AMD). At the first stage, performing optical coherence tomography with obtaining tomographic scans, on which median filtration is successively performed; removing the background on the filtered image; removing all layers of retina between inner boundary membrane and outer plexiform layer; isolation of retinal pigment epithelium (RPE); removal of outer nuclear layer, outer boundary membrane, myoid, ellipsoid zones and layer of outer segments of photoreceptors; restoration of ruptures of RPE contour by interpolation; approximation of RPE line by cubic spline; segmentation of drusen by selecting 3rd order polynomial to the approximated line of the RPE, passing the sliding window along the array of differences of the approximated layer and the polynomial with the latter shifting in the window to a maximum, followed by fitting 3rd order polynomial to the shifted line of the RPE; determining the difference between the approximated line with drusen and the shifted line of the RPE and selecting drusen on the prepared image by removing the accumulation of pixels with an area of less than 70 pixels and the accumulation of pixels whose height is less than 8 pixels. At the second stage, signs of the shape and reflectivity of drusen are determined by the proposed formulas. At the third stage, according to the shape and reflectivity criteria established at the second stage, drusen are defined as being round or conical, as well as to low- or medium- and high-reflectivity drusen.

EFFECT: method provides higher accuracy of drusen subtypes determination on OCT images in AMD due to the declared signs of drusen shape and reflectivity.
