FIELD: metallurgy.

SUBSTANCE: method of controlling gas flows in a shaft furnace involves supply and filtration of a reducing gas flow through a layer of lumpy materials, heating and reduction of materials in a counterflow, as well as removal of waste gas from the recovery zone by central and peripheral flows. Waste gas is removed in cyclic mode through the central gas outlet, in which the ratio of the area of the inlet of the central gas outlet to the area of the living section of the shaft of the shaft furnace at this level is equal to 0.06-0.50, with duration of cycle of 0.02-0.12 of time of stay of materials in reduction zone, besides, during the cycle, hourly flow rate of gas removed by central gas flow is varied in range of 0.1-0.6 of total flow rate of waste gas.

EFFECT: increasing the yield of the finished product.
