FIELD: metallurgy.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to metallurgy. It can be used in automotive industry, aviation, production of household appliances, electrical and electronic equipment and various structures. Iron-based composition contains at least two elements selected from: 0.001–0.6 wt.% of aluminium (Al), 0.001–0.3 wt.% of titanium (Ti), 0.5–3 wt.% of manganese (Mn), 0.2 wt.% or less of niobium (Nb), 0.01 wt.% or less of carbon (C), 0.001–0.02 wt.% nitrogen (N), 0.02 wt.% of phosphorus (P) and 0.01 wt.% or less of sulphur (S). During diffusion alloying, difference in grain size, for example, upward, is less than that of corresponding grains of reference composition, for example, stainless steels 439 (439 SS), 304L (304L SS), DDS. Also disclosed is a method of preparing a substrate containing said composition by thermomechanical treatment and a method of producing a metal article by applying on a substrate containing said composition, suspension for diffusion alloying and combined heat treatment with formation of an article containing a substrate, and a metallurgically bound surface layer.
EFFECT: high corrosion resistance is provided.
