SUBSTANCE: invention relates to medicine and can be used to increase the number of erythrocytes in a subject. Disclosed is a method for increasing the number of erythrocytes in a subject, comprising administering to subject 2 g or more of composition containing 15-hydroxyeicosapentaenoic acid (15-HEPE), wherein the subject shows an increase in the number of erythrocytes, a decrease in the width of distribution of erythrocytes and/or a decrease in the number of reticulocytes compared to the individual in the control group not receiving 15-HEPE or the composition.
EFFECT: method provides an increase in the number of erythrocytes, a decrease in the width of distribution of erythrocytes and/or a decrease in the number of reticulocytes in a subject.
