FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method of producing sesquialteral lanthanum sulphide – lanthanum (III) γ-sulphide (γ-La2S3) and can be used in production of optical and thermoelectric materials. Obtaining lanthanum (III) γ-sulphide involves sulphidation of lanthanum compound with sodium thiocyanate melt. Initial lanthanum compound used is lanthanum oxide La2O3. Sulphiding is carried out in the presence of potassium cyanide with a weight excess of sodium thiocyanate relative to potassium cyanide of not more than 70-fold, wherein KCN is gradually added in equal portions at equal time intervals.
EFFECT: method enables to obtain lanthanum sesquialteral sulphide – lanthanum (III) γ-sulphide without undesirable impurities of polysulphides and provides for the process simplification.
