SUBSTANCE: invention relates to physical chemistry. Disclosed is a method for determining the refraction index of an ethanol-fuel emulsion, which includes preparing a mixture of a given composition, applying an emulsion on the surface of the lower measuring prism of a refractometer, installation of the upper lighting prism over the lower measuring prism, the dispersion compensator flywheel rotation until the light-and-shadow boundary line disappears, guiding the light-and-shadow boundary by the flywheel exactly to the cross hairs of the sighting lines, reading the result on the refraction index scale, wherein applied emulsion is ground in for one minute to obtain homogeneous monolayer using the upper lighting prism previously disconnected from the refractometer body.
EFFECT: invention provides high accuracy of measuring refraction index of low-stability highly concentrated ethanol-fuel emulsions.
